Bank statement converters compared

Most "best bank statement converter" lists we found were written by one of the vendors, ranking itself first. This one is written by a vendor too — so instead of a ranking, here are the facts side by side, and which tool fits which job. Prices are from each company's own pages, checked on October 29, 2026.

  • QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken (QBO/QFX files): MoneyThumb, DocuClipper or CapyParse.
  • Direct QuickBooks Online / Xero posting, API, SOC 2: DocuClipper.
  • Many document types besides statements: Lido.
  • Tiny one-off jobs: CapyParse's daily free pages and $5 packs work too.

What actually matters when choosing

First, where the data goes next. If it's QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken, you need QBO/QFX output and that narrows the list. If it's Excel, Google Sheets, QuickBooks Online or Xero, a clean CSV is enough.

Second, how you'll check it. Any tool can misread a line. A balance check against the statement's opening and closing balances is the fastest way to know nothing is missing; seeing each row next to its source page is the fastest way to fix it.

Third, how often you convert. Occasional users save money with packs that don't renew; firms converting every month should compare per-page cost on the plan they'd really use.

Finally, how long the vendor keeps your statements. Policies range from hours to "until you delete them".

Try before you decide

Every tool here has a free tier or trial. Upload the same statement to two of them and compare the result against the PDF — that tells you more than any comparison page, including this one.

Questions

Is there a completely free bank statement converter?

Some tools give free pages every day or a one-time allowance; none we checked is unlimited and free. For an occasional statement, free tiers are often enough.

Can ChatGPT convert a bank statement?

It can read a page, but on long statements lines can go missing or get merged, and nothing tells you. Whatever you use, check the totals against the statement's opening and closing balances.
