Why bank statements need their own checks
A statement has a built-in test: opening balance plus money in minus money out must equal the closing balance. A missed line or a debit read as a credit breaks that equation, so checking it catches most extraction errors at once. General extraction tools flag uncertain fields instead, which is useful but won't tell you that a whole line is missing.
