How to download your Barclays statements

On the website

  1. Log in to Barclays Online Banking.
  2. Open the drop-down menu under your name and choose My documents and messages.
  3. Select My Barclays documents (online statements are listed here by account and date).
  4. Find the statement you need and click Download above it to save the PDF.
  5. If the download shows an error, cancel and try again, or open the statement and save it as a PDF from your browser.

In the mobile app

  1. Log in to the Barclays app.
  2. Go to Statements & documents (usually reached from the account itself or the More menu).
  3. Choose the account and statement period.
  4. Download or share the PDF.

Barclays online statements go back to July 2013. If you registered for Online Banking after that, you can see statements from your registration date onward. For anything older, contact Barclays to request copy statements.

Menu names change from time to time. If a step doesn't match, look for Statements or Documents in your account menu.

Barclays' own transaction export vs converting the PDF statement

OptionWhat you getWatch out for
Online Banking exportA file of the transactions on screen, for spreadsheets such as Excel, QuickBooks 2005, Sage Line 50 or older Microsoft Money versionsNot a statement: no statement period, start or end balance. Delayed payments are left out, and payments made today only appear from the next working day.
Printed transactions pageA printout of the transactions view with a running balanceHas no start or end balance rows, money out is shown with a minus sign, and Barclays itself points you to statements for official records.
PDF statement + converterEvery transaction from the official statement in XLSX or CSV, with each row linked to its source page and totals checked against the start and end balances5 free pages a day; more pages need a paid pack (from $5 for 30). No QBO or OFX output.

Use the Online Banking export when you only need recent transactions and the date range on screen is enough. Use the PDF statement when you need full statement periods that match what your accountant or HMRC sees, or older periods.

What Barclays statements look like

  • Statement columns are Date, Description, Money out £, Money in £ and Balance £, so withdrawals and deposits sit in separate columns rather than one signed amount.
  • Transaction dates are printed as day and month only (for example 29 Aug). The year only appears in the statement period, and a period can run across two months or a year end.
  • The date is printed once per day; further transactions on the same day leave the date cell blank.
  • The table starts with a Start Balance row and ends with Balance carried forward. Continuation pages begin with Balance brought forward from previous page, which is not a transaction.
  • Descriptions often wrap over several lines, with references such as Ref: on their own line, and long payee names can be cut short.

Tips for converting Barclays statements

  • Remove the Start Balance, Balance brought forward and Balance carried forward lines before importing, or your accounting software will treat them as transactions.
  • Fill blank dates down from the row above and add the correct year, especially for statements that span December and January.
  • Check the At a glance box on page 1: start balance plus money in minus money out should equal the end balance. If your spreadsheet totals don't match, a row has been missed or doubled.
  • Barclaycard credit card statements use a different layout from Barclays current accounts, so convert and import them as a separate credit card account.

Sample data

Every extracted row sits next to the page it came from, and the totals are checked against the opening and closing balances printed on the statement. This example uses made-up data, not a real Barclays statement.

Barclays statement questions

Can I download Barclays statements as Excel or CSV?

Statements themselves are PDFs. Online Banking has a separate Export option above the transaction list that produces a spreadsheet-friendly file, but it covers transactions, not full statements with start and end balances.

How far back can I get Barclays statements online?

Online statements are available back to July 2013, or from the date you registered for Online Banking if that was later. For older statements, ask Barclays for copies.

Why are there no years on my Barclays statement dates?

Barclays prints transaction dates as day and month, with the year shown in the statement period at the top. When converting, take the year from the period and watch statements that cross a year end.

Is a printed transactions page the same as a statement?

No. The printed transactions view has no start or end balance and Barclays points you to statements for official records. Use the PDF statement for bookkeeping and for anything you send to a lender or HMRC.

Does the Barclays export include today's payments?

Transfers and payments made in Online Banking or the app become available to export from the start of the next working day, and delayed payments are not included.
