How to download your Bank of America statements
On the website
- Sign in to Bank of America Online Banking.
- Hover over "Accounts" and click "Statements & Documents".
- Use the drop-down menus to choose the account and the year.
- Click the statement you want; it opens as a PDF that you can save.
- Repeat for each month you need.
In the mobile app
- Sign in to the Bank of America Mobile app and tap "Menu".
- In the Statements and Documents section, tap "Statements and Documents" (or "Bank of America" if you have other linked accounts).
- Use the drop-down menus to choose an account and year, then tap the statement to open it as a PDF.
The most recent 6 years of monthly statements can be viewed online right away. Older statements, up to 7 years, can be requested through Online Banking or by contacting Bank of America; a $5 fee may apply for each requested statement that is mailed to you.
Menu names change from time to time. If a step doesn't match, look for Statements or Documents in your account menu.
Bank of America's transaction download vs converting the PDF
| Option | What you get | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Bank of America transaction download ("Microsoft Excel Format") | A comma-separated file from the account's transaction page, for a preset period or a custom date range; checking exports include a running balance | Covers recent activity, not your full statement history; checking files start with summary lines above the column headers that you need to delete. Quicken (QFX) file downloads are no longer offered |
| PDF statement converted with bankstatementconverters.net | XLSX or CSV with Money out / Money in or one signed Amount column, optional Balance and Source page columns, ISO dates; totals checked against the statement's beginning and ending balances | 5 free pages a day without an account; no QBO or OFX export |
| PDF statement on its own | The official monthly record | Not a data file; deposits, withdrawals, checks and fees sit in separate tables |
Use the Microsoft Excel Format download when the dates you need are still available on the transaction page. For older months, or when the numbers must match a statement exactly, convert the PDF statements instead.
What Bank of America statements look like
- Checking statements split activity into separate sections: "Deposits and other additions", "Withdrawals and other subtractions", "Checks" and "Service fees", each with its own total, instead of one running ledger.
- Checks have their own table with Date, Check # and Amount columns, and no payee description.
- Transaction rows show the amount only. There is no balance on each line; the account summary gives beginning balance, section totals and ending balance.
- Transaction dates are printed as MM/DD/YY, so the year is on every row.
- Each statement is for a single account; if you download several accounts, each one has its own summary and sections.
Tips for converting Bank of America statements
- After converting, sort all rows by date. Because deposits, withdrawals, checks and fees come from different sections, the rows will not be in date order until you sort them.
- Check that the totals for each section in your spreadsheet match the account summary on the first page before you import.
- If you use the bank's own download, delete the summary lines above the Date, Description, Amount header before importing into QuickBooks, Xero or Excel tables.
- For a Bank of America credit card, import into a credit card account in your accounting software, not a checking account.

How you check the result
Sample dataEvery extracted row sits next to the page it came from, and the totals are checked against the opening and closing balances printed on the statement. This example uses made-up data, not a real Bank of America statement.
Bank of America statement questions
Can I download Bank of America statements as Excel?
Statements themselves are PDF. Bank of America's transaction download offers a "Microsoft Excel Format" file, which is a comma-separated file of recent transactions rather than a copy of your statement.
How far back can I get Bank of America statements?
The last 6 years are available online immediately under Statements & Documents. Statements up to 7 years old can be requested online or from the bank, and a fee may apply to mailed copies.
Can I still download Bank of America transactions for Quicken?
Bank of America no longer offers Quicken (QFX) file downloads from its website. Users are pointed to Quicken's direct connection instead, and the website download is now the Excel-format file.
Why are my Bank of America transactions not in date order after converting?
The statement lists deposits, withdrawals, checks and fees in separate sections. Sort the converted rows by date to rebuild a single ledger.
Does a Bank of America statement show a running balance?
No. Rows show only the amount. The account summary shows the beginning and ending balance and the totals for each section.
